still is a bookwork project that I’ve been working on for the past few years. While I envisioned this piece as a gathering, the various images, poems and texts don’t appear chronologically. When context shifts, often so does meaning. And I was interested in how the various pieces related and played off each other across spines, over pages and between the covers of this bookwork … how proximity, positioning and layering as well, might also shift a reading.
While some of the poems and images had previous iterations, often as part of an artist bookwork, a video piece, a postcard project or an installation, I have reconsidered and in some cases rebuilt them here alongside pieces that were written, photographed or painted more recently once this still project was underway.
In December 2025, I held the first finished copy in my hands. Initially my hope was to print, hand bind and disperse seventy-five copies by my seventy-fifth birthday however I realize now that this is not realistic. The bookwork is 214 pages and printing and binding is a very slow process for me. I do hope however, to get a few copies printed and bound by this summer.
The bookwork’s dimensions are approximately 47 cm (H) X 31.75 cm (W), when the bookwork is closed. So when the bookwork is open, the span of the facing pages is 47 cm (H) X 63.5 cm (W). In sharing some of the pages here, I realize that you might not be able to easily read the text, but I hope that this might offer at least a sense of the work.
I may add more pages in the future but for now, what I’ve shared here are the first 33 pages of still.
